The New 500 is 60 years old and celebrations are being staged worldwide to mark the event. From 8 to 10 September, the "fabulous 500" is starring in the UK's biggest vintage car show, the 2017 Goodwood Revival Meeting.

The 500 made its first appearance 60 years ago and was the brain child of designer Dante Giacosa

Since that day, Fiat's smallest car has come a long way and become a true global icon (read the full story on the 60-year history of the New Fiat 500).

Various initiatives are being staged around the world to celebrate the 60th birthday of the New 500.

Even the UK’s historic Goodwood Motor Circuit has decided to pay tribute to its timeless beauty.

The Revival Meeting is one of Europe’s biggest vintage car shows and is held every year in the county of West Sussex; this year’s special guests are the fabulous 500s, which are opening the weekend with a parade in their honour.

Over 120 cars are converging on the circuit each day for a grand, stylish party celebrating the very best of Italian manufacturing.

The result resembles a street scene from 1950s Italy and the event organisers have added to the atmosphere by referencing another cult masterpiece: the 1953 film Roman Holiday, which showcased one of the most charming sides of Italy to the world. Riding Vespas and Lambrettas, gentlemen dressed like Gregory Peck and ladies with Audrey Hepburn-style headscarves are parading alongside classic 500s in an evocative re-enactment of the period, which was immortalised by the Fiat model itself in its first advertising posters (read the story of Mirella Rovatti and the first advertising campaign for the 500).

The 2017 Goodwood Revival Meeting is an unmissable event, not just for fans of the 500, but for everyone who is fascinated by the cultural context in which it was produced.
