The history of four world-leading Italian motoring brands
From the most emblematic models to the most successful, revolutionary people, and the most significant events, this section illustrates and celebrates the cornerstones of Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Abarth.
It was 1 April 1928 when Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi drove a 6C 1500 Super Sport to victory in the "most beautiful race in the world".
The 36th edition of the Mille Miglia is an unmissable event for Alfa Romeo. The Milanese brand is participating in the race as Automotive Sponsor and will be celebrating a happy memory at the same time. Because the 2018 edition coincides with the 90th anniversary of Alfa’s first victory in "the most beautiful race in the world".
On board the extraordinary 6C 1500 Super Sport, one of the motoring masterpieces designed by Vittorio Jano, Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi dominated the rally by covering the 1618-km route at a remarkable average speed of 84 km/h. The brand’s first success in the Mille Miglia was followed by another ten victories in the same race, including seven consecutive titles from 1932 to 1938, a record that will never be beaten.
Alfa Romeo will celebrate the anniversary with a series of special initiatives and a number of magnificent historic cars from the FCA Heritage collection will be displayed at the event. Alongside these rarities will be around 30 Giulia and Stelvio models that Alfa Romeo will be exhibiting as official cars of the 2018 Mille Miglia, with the ongoing aim of demonstrating the common features that cars of the past share with today’s automobiles.
Because admiring the historic cars that contributed to moulding the racing legend of Alfa Romeo can help to understand the origins of the precious stylistic and technical heritage behind the latest models. These include the brand-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, which was recently crowned the world’s fastest SUV on the famous Nürburgring circuit. Its new record of 7 minutes and 51.7 seconds eclipsed the previous benchmark for the SUV class by 8 seconds.
The Alfa Romeo legend continues.
