Alfa Romeo will be entering three showpieces from the FCA Heritage collection, which have been displayed throughout the year at the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum, while Lancia is on the starting grid with its Aprilia and Aurelia B24 models.
The event that Enzo Ferrari described as "the most beautiful race in the world", the Mille Miglia, resumes on 18 to 21 May.
For the third consecutive year, Alfa Romeo reprises its role of Automotive Sponsor for a competition in which it has a glittering pedigree. Today the Milan-based automaker still holds the competition record for the most race victories, with 11, including seven in a row from 1932 to 1938.
Lancia will be on the starting grid with the 1937 Aprilia and 1955 Aurelia B24. The Aprilia represents the spiritual testament of Vincenzo Lancia. The car has a remarkably innovative look compared with the designs of other sedans from the same era and features a particularly aerodynamic profile that enables it to reach a top speed of 130 km/h. The Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider, designed by Pinin Farina, is regarded by many as the most beautiful spider in the world. Behind the wheel will be Helio Ascari, a descendant of the great Alberto Ascari, who won the 1954 Mille Miglia on board a Lancia D24.
The ‘Biscione’ brand is entering three historic cars, which have been displayed throughout the year at Alfa Romeo’s Time Machine Museum. They are the 6C 1750 Gran Sport from 1930, the legendary model with which Nuvolari and Guidotti beat the average speed record on the way to winning the 1930 title, the 6C 2300 Coupè Mille Miglia styled by Touring and the 1900 Super Sprint from 1956, the coupé version of the "family sedan that wins races".
The Mille Miglia also gives spectators the chance to admire the latest Alfa Romeo creations, namely the Stelvio midsize SUV and the Giulia, which embodies the brand's new paradigm. The two cars offer amazing styling, spaciousness, mechanical excellence, state-of-the-art engines and high-tech equipment.
Alfa Romeo turned in a stellar performance at this 2017 edition, with two of its cars securing podium finishes. The 1931 6C 1750 Gran Sport driven by crew number 74—consisting of 29-year-old Andrea Vesco from Sarezzo, Val di Trompia (Brescia), and 38-year-old Andrea Guerini from Marcheno (Brescia)—was first to cross the finish line on Viale Venezia in Brescia, and for the second year running, followed by the 1933 6C 1500 Gran Sport Zagato.
All in all, it was another highly successful year for Alfa Romeo in the most beautiful race in the world.
