The Italian flag flies over the Goodwood Festival of Speed, to be held from 29 June to 2 July near Chichester, in Great Britain. This national focus comes from the famous English competition's celebration of Ferrari's 70th anniversary and the racing participation of various Italian cars. One of the loveliest and fastest of them all is the Lancia LC2. A perfect model to star in this year's Goodwood Festival, dedicated to Peaks of Performance - Motorsport's Game-Changers.
Built to compete in the 1983 Group C Sports Prototype World Championship, the Lancia LC2 has a twin cam 8-cylinder Ferrari engine with two KKK turbochargers. Stunningly powerful, the engine delivers 700 HP at 9000 rpm, with a top speed of 360 Km/h. In other words, the Lancia LC2's performance is truly devastating.
Lightweight (no more than 850 Kg) thanks to an aluminium alloy monocoque with magnesium struts, titanium roll bar, honeycomb panelling and composite bodywork, the Lancia LC2 also has an impressively high torque.

Aggressively engined and supremely elegant - in genuine Lancia tradition - in its white livery with the blue and red stripes of its sponsor, Martini, the Lancia LC2 succeeded in breaking the dominant 1983 Porsche cars' complete grip on the season, with several top-three finishes and even a victory in the Imola 1000 Km, in the hands of the Teo Fabi-Hans Hayer duo.
In the following years these achievements were followed by wins in the Kyalami 1000 Km in South Africa, driven by Riccardo Patrese-Alessandro Nannini and at the Spa 1000 Km in Belgium, with Mauro Baldi and Riccardo Patrese.
In the meantime, the engine had been enlarged to 3014 cc, with a massive 800 horsepower.
In 1985 Lancia decided to withdraw from Endurance competition and the Lancia LC2 was consigned to the Turin firm's huge garages. But this car has remained very much present in the memory of fans, who still love it for the elegance of its lines, its speed on the race track and its rarity value - only five were built. The FCA Heritage team and engineers have returned it to working order, and its participation at the Goodwood Speed Festival 2017 is headline news. Because this may be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see a car like the Lancia LC2 in action: very fast, very elegant, unique.
