Karl Abarth's reputation as a brilliant car designer, entrepreneur and eclectic constructor stemmed partly from the records established by his creations. The "theatre" where most of his feats were played out was the Monza racetrack, an ideal circuit for driving long distances at very high speeds. Besides having a great impact on the public, records were a full-blown obsession for Karl Abarth, an irrepressible passion that pushed him to constantly outdo himself. In 1965 he resolved to personally set the Scorpion brand's 100th record, behind the wheel of an Abarth 1000. The dedication to achieve this goal led him to prepare himself by undergoing a strict diet. Legend has it that an apple-based diet helped him reach the ideal weight for victory.
