Basel, in Switzerland, is to host the new international show that combines automotive design with contemporary art forms.

A new international show, unique of its kind, is making its debut on the automotive scene. 6 September sees the start of the first edition of Grand Basel, the show that presents the automobile in the contexts of art, design, architecture and lifestyle. Enthusiasts will enjoy a first-hand look at the finest collector's items of the past and present.

FCA Heritage is taking part, and will be showcasing the Italian motoring tradition, with its iconic style, design and automotive art.Historic car collectors and enthusiasts will have the chance to see for themselves the mythical 1950 Alfa Romeo 1900 Berlina from the Alfa Rome Historic Museum - La Macchina del Tempo, in Arese.

Alongside it, visitors to Grand Basel will find a fascinating historical "first": the three-dimensional full-size model of a car designed in 1953 by Giò Ponti, using the measurements of the very same 1900 Berlina. The great architect's pen created a futuristic car that was never built, inspired by the stylistic concept of the "Diamond Line", best exemplified by his Pirelli skyscraper in his home city of Milan. The transformation of Ponti’s original drawings into a three-dimensional model was overseen by Roberto Giolito, Head of FCA Heritage.
